Beyond The Sea by The Aquamarines

Charles Trenet (1913-2001) first recorded his song "La Mer" in 1946. The best known version with english lyrics (by Jack Lawrence) is the one recorded by Bobby Darin in 1960. There are hundreds of other recordings - George Benson had a hit with it in 1985 for instance.

"1960s teen idol Bobby Darin made his swingin' hit version of "Beyond
The Sea (La Mer)" famous in 1960, and the song was one of Bobby's
personal favorites. It was around this time that he met his wife,
Sandra Dee. The actress is best known for recordings and starring
roles in such 1960s films as Gidget, A Summer Place, Tammy and the
Doctor, and Come September. Together, the couple shaped dreams of young
romance and the iconic American surf and beach scenes.

In 1960, Sandra was married to teen idol Bobby Darin, and they had one
son, Dodd. Between 1960-1967 the couple met, worked together, fell in
love, married, and had a child. Theirs was a storybook romance that
ended too soon. Darin died at the early age of 37. On February 20, 2005
the very talented and beloved Sandra Dee passed away. But to many of
us, the romance lives on, in their movies and in Bobby's music. The
couple brought so much joy to fans who continue to love them and thank
them for all the happiness they have given us. The Aquamarines dedicate
the instrumental 'surf' version of "Beyond The Sea" to Bobby, Sandra,
and family."
